Hi everyone, I’m Daniel Garcia, and I am running for the Rio School District Board of Trustees, Area 3. As a proud son of immigrants born and raised right here in El Rio and Oxnard, I am a direct product of our local schools from El Rio Elementary to Rio Mesa High. This community shaped who I am, from my days at Oxnard College and CSU Channel Islands to my work serving our neighbors as a patient advocate, disaster response coordinator, and now as a longshoreman at the Port of Hueneme. I am running because our kids deserve every opportunity to succeed. I know firsthand how the right support and resources can change a student’s life. I want to ensure our families are heard, our teachers and staff are supported, and our resources are managed transparently. I’m ready to give back to the schools that gave me so much. Let's shape what comes next, together.
I will advocate for timely services, inclusive classrooms, and better support for families navigating special education. Teachers and support staff need the training, resources, and staffing to help every student succeed.
I will push for clear explanations of district budgets, spending decisions, and progress toward district goals. Families deserve to understand how resources are distributed across schools and how those investments benefit students.
I want families to have meaningful opportunities to participate, ask questions, and help shape district priorities. I will advocate for accessible communication, translation, and interpretation so language does not prevent anyone from being involved in their child’s education.
Supporting students also means supporting the people who serve them every day. I will listen to teachers and staff and advocate for classroom resources, professional development, and attention to workload and burnout.
I will support campus safety, emergency preparedness, bullying prevention, and access to mental health resources. Every student deserves a school where they feel safe, respected, and ready to learn.
I will support strong instruction in reading, writing, and math alongside science, technology, and visual and performing arts. I want the board to review student progress and address barriers so every student has opportunities to learn, create, and thrive.
Have questions or suggestions? I would love to hear from you!
